Wm BULLINGFORD, Liverpool. No 1134
Good example of a Coventry(?) made ‘American market’ verge movement, circa 1810.
£45.00
Fullplate fusee movement with Tompion-style key operated rack, but with index engraved on the top plate. Verge escapement. Steel balance, spiral balance-spring. Convex enamel dial with upright Arabic hour numerals. 45 mm diameter, 16 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
Although a Bullingford watch retailer may have once existed, this name is known to have been put on movements by various Coventry and Liverpool manufactures for retailing in the then burgeoning American market, and, importantly, can also be found on Swiss made fakes. As quality goes, this is one of the better examples – a minor but important example of English / American watch making and watch marketing history.
Lacking hands and dial with some damage. Otherwise complete but does not want to tick. Sold as not working.
