Wm LOCKWOOD, Huddersfield. No 23602
Rare ‘Ganter’s Patent’ 8-day movement, circa 1900, from the Alan Treherne collection.
£85.00
Large capped fullplate movement with twin going-barrels, independently wound. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Compensation balance, spiral balance-spring. Enamel dial, signed in full for both Lockwood and Ganter, in almost perfect condition, gilt hands. 51.5 mm diameter, 15 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
John Ganter, 11 Queen Street, Morley, Leeds, Patent No 19,583, September 1899. Two going-barrels driving a common wheel, which then drives the train via the centre wheel.
William Lockwood, 37 New Street, Huddersfield, Yorkshire, retailer.
Few of these Patent 8-day watches are known, I previously sold a complete watch in my 2001 Postal Auction catalogue No 5, lot 117. Nothing appears to be broken and both barrels seem to be fully wound but no power is getting to the escapement. Not working.
