Rob’t ROSKELL, Liverpool. No 47044
Breguet-type quarter-repeating movement by this famous Lancashire, circa 1835, from the Alan Treherne collection.
£145.00
Slim gilt Lepine-type going-barrel movement of the form favoured by the Breguet firm, the repeating train under the dial. Duplex (frictional rest) escapement with steel roller. Compensation balance, spiral balance-spring. 45 mm diameter and just 7 mm deep without dial.
Robert Roskell, a most famous Liverpool watch, clock and chronometer maker, one of the most influential of Lancashire watch makers and retailers. NB: This movement is probably of Swiss origin but has almost certainly been finished by the Roskell firm, although duplex escapements are rarely seen in Liverpool work, as are such slim repeatings movements of this continental caliper.
Lacking dial and hands but retaining the motion work and gongs (not shown). Nothing broken, noting the replaced roller, in the going train and both going and repeat trains appear only to be suffering from dried up oil. Not working and sold as needing at least a service and fresh oil to work correctly.
