Good English Deck Watch with Royal Navy and Australian Navy history.
£895.00
Heavy silver crystal case hallmarked London 1913, sponsor’s mark JR (John Rotherham, Coventry). 16-size fullplate Rotherhams supplied going-barrel movement engraved with the government’s ‘Broad Arrow’ pheon, as usually found on these Admiralty watches. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Compensation balance, spiral balance-spring. Signed enamel dial, blued-steel hands. 53.5 mm diameter.
John Lilley & Sons, London retailers of box chronometers and Rotherhams made Deck Watches, one of many.
This watch was purchased by the admiralty in May 1914 and remained in service until 1921, when it was transferred to the Australian Government. During the 1st World War it served aboard HMS Hecla, a Depot ship supporting the Fourth Destroyer Flotilla at Scapa Flow, ending the war in Malta. A copy of its naval history is available if wanted
Dial with the usual hair cracks, otherwise the watch in good original condition showing few signs of use. Winding and ticking but not serviced by me and priced accordingly. This can be done if required – my likely cost around £200
