H & J DANIEL, Liverpool. No 3084
Interesting ‘PATENT” Massey lever movement, circa 1825, from the Alan Treherne collection.
£45.00
Fullplate fusee movement of typical Lancashire size and quality, the cap stamped WB. Massey detached lever escapement with type-3 jewelled roller, the parallel sided lever in brass rather than steel – most unusual. Steel balance, spiral balance-spring. Lovely one-piece cream enamel dial in almost perfect condition (note the slight error in the orientation of the seconds bit), mismatched blued-steel hands. 48 mm diameter, 14.5 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
Henry and J Daniel, one of the lesser known Liverpool watchmaking firms. NB: There are both obvious and less obvious differences between one lever escapement maker and another, especially at this early period – if only we knew who they all were.
Replacement hands, a couple of small firing blemishes at the centre of the dial and all rather dirty. Otherwise complete and will tick when wound.
