Thomas MUDGE and William DUTTON, a perfect partnership
Tobias Birch exhibition catalogue, with introduction by David Penney.
£20.00
Printed card covers: Foreword, Timeline, Introduction, list of all known numbered clocks with dates, 20 clocks and 4 watches described and extensively illustrated, 88 pages. Privately printed, March 2019.
Catalogue of the selling exhibition put together by Toby Birch for the 2019 London BADA Fair held in Duke of York Square, King’s Road, March 20th to 26th.
My input is a short introduction to the Mudge and Dutton firm which provides for the first time important information about dating their clocks, plus an account of their unique design and production of the finest Georgian watches and clocks: longcase, spring, wall and turret. This includes a previously unrecorded Emery-type lever watch by Matthew Dutton, circa 1800, and a most unusual miniature timepiece by George Graham in an ormolu case, the earliest spring clock to be fitted with his dead-beat escapement, circa 1750.
New and full of information available nowhere else.
