Large centre-seconds ‘DETACH’D LEVER’ with sprung cap, circa 1840, from the Alan Treherne collection.
£75.00
Typical Lancashire half-plate fusee movement with sprung cap and balance-brake. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Gold balance, spiral balance-spring. Lovely cream enamel dial with Arabic minute/seconds marks at the quarters, an uncommon form for these c-secs movements, gold hands. 48 mm diameter, 9.5 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
John Foster, one of many Liverpool watch retailers at this boom period for Lancashire makers, many of their watches being sold into the burgeoning American market, Liverpool being the main export port for shipping to North America.
Dial with small edge chips near XII and in the centre, the lovely pieced moon minute sadly incomplete and lacking its c-seconds hand. Otherwise complete and will tick when wound but the sprung cap catching the movement on opening and shutting so in need of attention.
