HARWOOD. La Montre sans Remontoir
Stylish French magazine advert for a stylish automatic wristwatch, 1930.
£15.00
Full page black and white advert from L’Illustration, 26th April 1930. 38 x 27.5 cm (15 x 10.75 inches).
A fine contemporary advert for this ground breaking automatic wristwatch – not the first, but certainly the most important and successful.
Lancashire born John Harwood, (1893-1964). His first Patent for his invention of a self-winding wristwatch was taken out in Switzerland in 1924. Made under licence by the Swiss companies of Anton Schild and Fortis, Blancpain also started to manufacture them in 1928 for sale in France, this advert being for their stylishly cased model. The depression caused by the stock market crash of 1929 proved financially disastrous and production ceased.
In good clean condition, ideal for framing.
