CLARK, 20 Old Bond St
Very rare combination pocket watch and vesta case, circa 1890.
£845.00
Oval silver case with gilt interior engraved for its London retailer by the striker and bearing what I believe to be continental assay marks, the rear with four letter monogram DCHO. Small Swiss pin-set lever movement neatly set into the body leaving room for the matches. Black enamel dial, gilt hands. 56 x 42 mm, with loose ring bow for attaching to a suitable watch chain.
Alfred Clark ‘by appointment to HRH the Prince and Princess of Wales’ 20 Old Bond Street, silversmith and manufacturer of fitted travelling bags. The firm moved to New Bold Street in 1903, finally closing, as did many firms due to the depression caused by the Wall Street crash, in 1934.
Vesta cases come in a great many styles and varieties but I have never seen another example of this elegant and stylish form. In good original condition showing only slight signs of use, the movement recently serviced and sold with my usual guarantee.
