No 9589"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Large \u2018first series\u2019 fullplate movement with going-barrel and beautifully engraved cap. Sapphire cylinder (frictional rest) escapement with polished steel escape. Plain 4-arm gilt brass balance, spiral balance spring. 51.5 mm diameter, 12 mm deep, not including dial (lacking) and centre arbor.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Philip Barraud and John Richard Lund, one of the leading London watch and chronometer manufacturers, of which the late Cedric Jagger produced a good history and checklist of their productions in his books <em>Paul Phillip Barraud<\/em> and its <em>Supplement<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>NB: This rare movement is almost certain to have been originally housed in one of Barraud\u2019s wonderful painted enamel cases, see Jagger\u2019s <em>Supplement<\/em>, plate XXXI, page 227. However, unlike the complete watch shown, this movement, No 9589, is not stamped JAPY and gives every indication of being English work throughout.<\/p>\n<p>Previously offered in Charles Allix &amp; Associates 1994 <em>Postal Auction Catalogue No 1<\/em>, lot 56. Lacking dial hands and motion work, but retaining its annular brass-edge. Otherwise in good, complete and original condition, noting the bloom of dried up oil.
