Watch chain – gold

Unusual ‘pocket-to-pocket’ waistcoat chain, circa 1900.

Item 87971 Categories: Pocket Watches, Watches

£1,195.00

15ct solid yellow gold ships-chain link watch chain with sliding T-bar, dog clip and spring bolt, the dog clip stamped 15. 15.5 inches (39 cm) in length, weight 21 grams.

For those who are not sure of how they were worn on a waistcoat, the T-bar goes through a button hole and the watch, held by the dog clip (also known as a swivel), is supported in a pocket. The other end can be used for a vesta case, pedometer, or similar. The button hole chosen for the T-bar is a matter of taste, sometimes being as low as the pocket, or a higher position can be used to show off the chain. Some traditionally made waistcoats include a watch chain hole ready stitched.

An unusual style of ‘naval’ chain, a perfect weight for most standard and lighter weight English pocket watches, and an ideal accompaniment for many J W Benson and Rotherhams watches. The colour suitable for any 18ct yellow gold case, and of course less costly than an 18ct chain. In fine little used condition.
