Watch chain – 18ct gold
Good graduated curb-link waistcoat chain, circa 1900.
£2,750.00
Solid 18 ct ‘single Albert’ chain with a drop and spring bolt, T-bar, and dog clip, every link stamped 18, the T-bar also stamped J.M (numerous JM stamps are recorded in Culme). 17.5 inches (44 cm) in length, weighing 43 grams.
For those who are not sure of how they were worn on a waistcoat, the T-bar goes through a button hole and the watch, held by the dog clip (also known as a swivel), is supported in a pocket. The drop can be used for holding a medal, compass, or similar. The button hole chosen for the T-bar is a matter of taste, sometimes being as low as the pocket, or a higher position can be used to show off the chain, and some traditional waistcoats include a watch chain hole ready stitched.
Suitable for any standard and larger sized pocket watch. Some signs of use, otherwise in fine condition and somewhat unusual in that graduated links are uncommon in gold.
