SABRIER – The Self-Winding Watch, 18th – 21st Century
The controversial publication on a most interesting topic, now out of print.
£145.00 £125.00
Printed boards, 308 pages, 252 figs with many colour photographs. English language edition, translated by Sharon Kerman, Editions Cercle d’Art, 2011.
A strange book by the late Jean-Claude Sabrier, with some serious omissions, but with many colour photographs that compliment the standard work by Chapuis & Jaquet, published as long ago as 1952. You can read my full review of this book in the September 2012 issue of Antiquarian Horology – see also the damning and extensive review by Richard Watkins which is available online. Despite this, the book is certainly worth having as long as one accepts and understands the limitations of the author who was a true capitalist in what he chose to present as ‘facts’ during most of the time that I knew him.
The English language edition which is difficult to find, this exemplary copy in publishers original shrink wrapping – unopened and truly ‘as new’
