BROCK, George St, Portman Square, London. No 1219
Good ruby cylinder movement by this interesting firm, circa 1860.
£145.00
Good quality London finished Lancashire 16-size capped fullplate fusee movement with cap jewels on balance (diamond) and escape. Jewelled cylinder (dead beat) escapement with polished steel escape. Steel balance, spiral balance-spring. Signed enamel dial, blued-steel hour hand. 45.5 mm diameter, 12 mm deep, not including centre arbor.
James Brock, from a family of watchmakers, one time foreman at Messrs Dent’s where he oversaw the making of the clock for the Palace of Westminster. The firm also made superior longcase regulators with gravity escapements and are known to have sold some fine watches, as well as supplying ‘prize’ watches to Christ’s Hospital School for over 50 years.
The usual faint hair crack into the seconds bit and lacking the minute hand, otherwise in good complete and original condition. Not cleaned by me and willing to tick when wound, but sold as needing at least a service and fresh oil to work correctly.
