BENSON, London. No 1320

Good early movement by this famous firm, circa 1825.

Item 91086 Categories: Watches, Watch Movements

£145.00

18-size capped fullplate fusee movement with cap jewels on balance (diamond) and escape. Duplex escapement retaining the original ruby roller, now so often lacking or replaced with steel. 3-arm gold balance with poising screws, spiral balance-spring. One-piece enamel dial, later hands. 46 mm diameter, 15 mm deep, not including centre arbor

James Walter Benson went on to become London’s biggest and most energetic watchmaking and watch retailing firm of the second half of the 19th and the first half of 20th centuries. This is a particularly early example.

Some minor chips and scratches to the enamel dial and general signs of age. Not cleaned by me, and rather dirty, but will tick happily when wound.
