Unusual semi-fullplate movement, in good original condition, circa 1900.

12-size Ashley fullplate keyless going-barrel movement with flat cock and balance let into a recess in the top plate. Single-roller detached lever escapement. Compensation balance, spiral balance-spring. Signed enamel dial in perfect condition. 41.5 mm diameter, 9 mm deep, not including centre arbor.

Edward F Ashley (1835-1908) ‘Watch & Chronometer Manufacturers’ 2 Green Terrace Clerkenwell, a well respected Clerkenwell watch manufacturer who is said to have personally overseen the manufacture of all his watches, and who favoured this unusual fullplate caliper. Later becoming Ashley & Sims for whom William (Bill) Gazeley worked, and who ran the firm after the second World War.

In good but dusty condition with a touch of rust on one balance arm. Otherwise complete and will tick if pressure is applied to the train.
