Anonymous, Swiss or French. No C 2117 on pendant
Small late Georgian verge watch in lovely original condition, circa 1825.
£595.00
Single engine-turned gold case set with half pearls front and back. Fullplate fusee movement lightly scratch numbered 2182. Verge escapement with typical continental adjustment for the drops. Plain balance, spiral balance spring. Annular enamel chapter ring fired onto a domed engine-turned gold dial, a rare and lovely style of dial, with original blued-steel, Breguet-style (Lepine actually) hands. 31 mm diameter.
A fashionable ladies item of the late Regency period, such watches were never built to last and most show the expected wear and tear. This watch has, however, survived in very good clean, crisp and original condition. It is also rather smaller than normal.
Cleaned for its previous owner and looks to be working well, and supplied with a correctly fitting key. A lovely example.
